Fall 2017 Quarterly Newsletter

Stay at The Eagle Inn and enjoy an unforgettable weekend getaway.  Book Room »

Dear Readers,

There really is no bad season in Santa Barbara. Each season brings something unique and fun. However, fall is one of the most beautiful seasons here.

The changing colors of the trees are breathtaking, the crisp fall air is intoxicating, and the beaches are a little more magical. Our guest rooms also feel a bit cozier when the seasons starts to change.

Looking back on the past few months, so much has happened in our little town of Santa Barbara.

Let’s look at some of the more interesting highlights:

MOXI Museum: We were pleased to see this gem open up just a few blocks away. MOXI – The Wolf Museum of Exploration + Innovation, is a high tech children’s museum that your kids will absolutely love. This is a world-class museum which offers awe-inspiring, one-of-a-kind experiences that unite learning and play to actively engage young minds.

Lower State St: The estimated $130 million La Entrada project on lower state is finally nearing completion. Our guests will now enjoy a variety of new shops, wine tasting spots and restaurants just steps from the Inn.  It’s heartwarming to see the developers embracing local culture.  They seem to be designing the open plazas, paseos, and gardens in Santa Barbara’s quintessential Spanish Colonial Revival style.

Funk Zone:  The Funk Zone continues to evolve before our eyes and there’s no shortage of creativity in sight. It’s bursting with breathtaking murals, funky sculptures and creative storefronts. Check out the complete Funk Zone merchant directory here.

Photo Contest:  We launched a quarterly photo contest and all you need to enter is to take a selfie.  We’re calling the contest the “The Eagle Inn Selfie Contest” and we want to you to strut your stuff for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate.

Fall Fare: Local fine dining restaurants, like TomaLarkBouchonCadiz and Chucks Waterfront Grille have started to use fall ingredients and their fall menus are fabulous! Now is your chance to book the fall getaway you deserve. Come relax around our historic Santa Barbara bed and breakfast and sip wine under the autumn sun. Doesn’t that sound perfect?

With the seasons changing from sweltering hot to dry and cooler, your skin may need a little TLC. Evolutions Spa is just steps away from The Eagle Inn, and has a variety of skin therapy packages to give your skin the pick me up it needs this fall!

Danish Days Celebration

The 81st Annual Celebration of Solvang Danish Days is almost here, and we couldn’t be more excited! We really look forward to this annual celebration of all things Danish here in the Santa Ynez Valley. Our towns of Ballard, Buellton, Los Alamos, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and Solvang gear up royally to celebrate and welcome visitors. There is so much to do during Danish Days that you will definitely want to plan a weekend getaway in Santa Ynez Valley just to be sure you don’t miss out on anything.

California’s Premier Danish Heritage Festival, Danish Days, returns this year from September 15-17, 2017. While overall admission is free, some individual events require tickets so be sure to check their official Danish Days website and get in on the best activities now!

Danish Days honors the 1911 establishment of Solvang by Danish-Americans. The celebration melds modern Danish practices with traditional ways, yet still exemplifies everything Danish. The weekend’s numerous offerings range from fan-favorite food events surrounding Aebleskiver, the iconic Danish pastry rounds, to a Danish-style Viking Beer and Wine Garden serving the famous Danish import, Carlsberg Beer, alongside local brews and wines. Kids will get a kick out of the Viking encampment in Solvang Park, or take them to an interactive history lesson at the Elverhoj Museum. There will also be plenty of free rock concerts, three parades, Danish folk dancers, chainsaw wood-carving demonstrations and an Old World artisanal crafts marketplace.

What’s an Æbleskiver you ask? These are traditional Danish pancakes in a distinctive shape of a sphere. Somewhat similar in texture to American pancakes crossed with a popover, Æbleskivers are solid like a pancake but light and fluffy like a popover. They are mouth-watering, especially when topped with powdered sugar and raspberry jam.

If you just can’t get your fill of delicious Danish food, participating restaurants in Solvang will also be “cooking up” something special just for Danish Days weekend, so be sure to come hungry! They might be serving Medisterpølse, a Danish specialty food consisting of a thick, spicy sausage made of minced pork, stuffed into casings. The word “Medisterpølse” was first used in a Swedish housekeeping book from the early 16th century. It is made in one long piece and then cut up into sections before serving. In contrast to many other types of sausage, it is cooked or fried for the first time during the final preparation. The spices generally used are allspice, cloves, salt and pepper.

Memorial Weekend Hotel Room Specials

emorial Weekend Hotel Room Specials

Dear Readers,

Memorial Day Weekend is nearly upon us, and The Eagle Inn would like to take a moment to honor the fallen soldiers who fought so bravely for this beautiful country. The Eagle Inn would be extremely proud to have all former and current veterans visit us on Memorial Day weekend, so we are offering a special on our standup paddling lessons or harbor kayaking to anyone with a military ID. Enjoy either of these activities for $89 on this year’s sunny Memorial Day weekend.

A somber holiday in its conception and tradition, Memorial Day has evolved as a holiday that we often spend with the family outside around the grill, but before you get the charcoal and lighter fluid out, The Eagle Inn would like to take a moment to revisit the history of the holiday. Inspired by our soldiers’ dedication and bravery, we would like to honor them by remembering the importance of the holiday.

Never Forget: There are over a quarter million soldiers buried in Arlington Cemetery with an average of 28 burials a day. We will never forget their sacrifices.

Moment of Silence: In 2000 Congress passed a law requiring all Americans to drop what they are doing at 3pm on Memorial Day to honor our fallen soldiers. You can be certain all of us at The Eagle Inn will be paying our respect at that time.

Old Glory: Remember on Memorial Day it is tradition to fly the flag at half-staff until noon and then raise it to full staff in the afternoon.

Veteran’s Day vs Memorial Day: Often the two are confused. Veteran’s Day honors all US military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who gave their lives while serving.

A United Country: Memorial Day wasn’t the original name of the holiday. It was Dedication Day, and it began after the Civil War to honor those who died.

Costly Price: We lost 620,000 soldiers during the Civil War. That’s more than WWI, WWII, and the Korean War combined. The high death toll was a result of Americans fighting on both sides of the war.

We would be inspired and honored to have any current and former soldier visit us on Memorial Day weekend. Rooms and activities book up fast on the holiday weekend, so give us a call at (805) 965-3586 or contact us online by clicking here.

Bring your military ID and receive special offers and discounts. Whether you’re looking for a room, fun activities, a beachside location or restaurants, The Eagle Inn will help you plan the perfect vacation in Santa Barbara.

Download our complimentary Santa Barbara Vacation Guide, “101 Free Things to Do in Santa Barbara,” for some not-to-miss Santa Barbara fun. Visit our website at http://TheEagleInn.com or call 805-965-3586 today to make hotel reservations.
